Thou Shalts

{See image here}

So Wednesday. What is Wednesday's in Miscellaneous? I like to think of Wednesday as a day of learning. Hopefully something you've never learned of before. And if you have learned it, perhaps you'll learn it in a different way. That's why I share this with you.

Does this sound familiar?

"I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage."

Thou shalt have no other gods before me."

If you've ever read the Bible {or don't live in the farthest corners of the Earth in isolation} of course you've heard that. That is the very FIRST of the Ten Commandments. You know that. But what is the 5th commandment God wrote upon the tablets of stone given unto Moses? What was that? Wait... I can't hear you. You're mumbling. Speak up.

We don't know them in order, right? Well I didn't. But maybe I'm not giving you all enough credit.

Glen Kimber, nice, wonderful man (son-in-law to Cleon Skousen, historian), just did a seminar here in the valley about the Constitution. While he was here he also taught 10 Commandment memory cues to help us remember these important commandments in their designed order. Now some of you might be thinking, "Heather, what the heck? You're a kook." And you'd be right. But that's not the point. The point is I like learning & knowing things. And I like being sure of things. So why NOT know the order of the Ten Commandments? Teach it to your kids. Let's give it a shot. If anything else... humor me.

TEN COMMANDMENTS simplified (Exodus 20:2-17 NKJV)

One - ONE - one & only God

1 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.

Two - ZOO - graven "animal" images

2 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My Commandments.

Three - TREE - has veins, Lord's name in vain

3 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.

Four - FORTS - has holes, keep the sabbath day holy (this one is stretching it, but...)

4 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

Five - FAMILY - honor Mom & Dad

5 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

Six - STICKS - don't kill (that would really hurt to get killed with a stick. Yikes!)

6 “You shall not murder."

Seven - HEAVEN - adulterers won't go to heaven

7 “You shall not commit adultery."

Eight - GATE - made of steal

8 “You shall not steal."

Nine - SIGN - don't bear false witness (can write false things on a sign... I know stretching it)

9 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor."

Ten - TENT - covers you, don't covet

10 “You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.”

Sweet right? It thought so. I hope you appreciate these nifty cues. If anything, you have a fun thing to do for family night. :) Now follow em.
